What floortok is

floortok is an information service about Japan's retail and luxury market. We compile store directories, brand locations, operator financials, market indicators and curated news from public and officially published sources.

The service is provided for general information and professional reference. It is not financial, investment, legal or tax advice, and should not be relied on as the sole basis for any decision.

Accuracy and availability

We work to keep the information accurate and current, but it is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Figures, store details and openings change frequently and may contain errors or omissions.

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service at any time without notice.

Permitted use

You may use floortok for your own personal or internal business reference. You may not scrape, bulk-copy, resell, or redistribute our compiled datasets as a substitute for the service without our written permission.

Underlying source data (government statistics, company disclosures, and similar) remains subject to the rights of its original publisher; see our Sources page for how each may be reused.

News and third-party content

News items are shown as a headline, a short summary and a link to the original publisher. Copyright in the original articles belongs to those publishers, and the link takes you to their site to read in full.

We are not responsible for the content of external sites we link to.

Submissions and press materials

If you send us material — a press release, press kit, images, a correction or any other content (a "Submission") — you confirm you have the right to do so and that our using it as described here will not infringe anyone's rights. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, translate, edit for length and style, and publish the Submission in our reporting, in both English and Japanese.

We publish press photographs only on the terms set out in our Editorial Policy — used whole and unaltered, credited as requested, and alongside our own reporting. We are under no obligation to publish, and may decline or later remove any Submission. Unless we agree otherwise in writing, Submissions are not treated as confidential, and sending one does not create any employment, agency or payment obligation.

Sharing a story by email

You can email a floortok story to up to five people at a time. By using this feature you confirm that you know each recipient personally or professionally, that you have a genuine reason to believe they would want to receive the story, and that you are not sending it for advertising, bulk distribution, or any commercial purpose of your own.

You must not use this feature to send unwanted, repeated, misleading, offensive or harassing messages, to reach people you do not know, or to collect or test email addresses. Personal notes must not contain links, attachments, advertising, or personal information about anyone else. We may review, shorten or decline to send a note, limit how often you can share, withdraw the feature from your account, or close your account if it is misused.

We send each message individually, in your name and on your instruction, from floortok. We do not add recipients to any mailing list and we do not market to them. If a recipient asks not to be contacted again we honour that permanently, including for shares sent by other readers.

You remain responsible for anything you write in a personal note, and for the consequences of sending a story to someone who did not want it.

Our intellectual property

The selection, arrangement and presentation of the data, together with the floortok name and design, belong to us. Brand names, logos and trademarks shown belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.

Our original articles, analysis and the illustrations we produce are floortok's copyright works. You may read and share links to them, but you may not republish, copy or redistribute them in substantial part without our written permission. Press photographs supplied by others remain the copyright of their owners and are published under the terms they set.

Subscription and billing

floortok offers a free plan and two paid subscriptions. Reader is ¥1,800 per month or ¥18,000 per year; Pro is ¥2,800 per month or ¥28,000 per year. All prices are shown tax-included (税込) — consumption tax is not added on top. The annual plans are billed once a year and work out at roughly two months free compared with paying monthly.

Paid subscriptions renew automatically. When you subscribe, your card is charged immediately for the first period; it is then charged again automatically at the start of each following period (monthly or yearly), at the then-current price, until you cancel. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Access to the paid features begins as soon as your first payment is completed.

You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your paid access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and we do not refund the fee for that current period. We do not give partial-period or pro-rata refunds except where the law requires it or where we are at fault.

A floortok subscription is a distance sale of a digital service (通信販売) under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act, to which the cooling-off right does not apply. Our full cancellation and refund terms (返品特約) are set out above and on our Specified Commercial Transactions Act disclosure page.

We may change the plans, their features or their prices, and may update these terms, as a standard-form contract (定型約款) in accordance with the Civil Code. Where a change is significant or increases what you pay, we will give reasonable advance notice on the site or by email before it takes effect for you, and you may cancel before it applies if you do not agree. A price change never affects a period you have already paid for.

Liability

floortok is provided for general information and professional reference. To the extent permitted by law, the service and its information are provided "as is" and we do not give warranties that they are error-free, complete or fit for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be waived under applicable consumer-protection law.

If we are liable to you in connection with a paid subscription, our total liability for all claims is limited to the subscription fees you paid to us for the service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim. This limit does not apply, and we do not exclude or limit our liability, where the law does not allow it — including liability caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

Except where the law does not permit it, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss. Nothing in this section excludes or limits your non-waivable statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Contract Act (消費者契約法) and other applicable law.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and your use of floortok are governed by the laws of Japan.

The Yokohama District Court shall be the agreed court of first instance for any dispute arising in connection with these terms or the service. This does not deprive you, as a consumer, of the protection of any mandatory rule of the law of the place where you live.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time; the date above shows the latest version. floortok is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any brand, retailer, department store or mall named on the site.
