Hoshino Resorts enters Saga Prefecture with a 28-room ryokan at Ureshino Onsen

Hoshino Resorts will open KAI Ureshino, a 28-room ryokan at Ureshino Onsen in Saga Prefecture, in summer 2027 -- its first property in the prefecture and the latest entry in the KAI network of onsen ryokan the Japanese operator has been filling in across the country.

Hoshino Resorts said it will open KAI Ureshino, a 28-room ryokan at Ureshino Onsen in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, in summer 2027, with reservations opening in spring 2027, according to a release dated October 19. The company said the property is its first in Saga Prefecture.

Every room is a maisonette-style "Satoyama Courtyard Room," with first-floor ceilings around five metres high and a private open-air bath looking onto its own courtyard, Hoshino Resorts said. Interiors use real Ureshino tea leaves worked into the fittings and artwork drawing on the nearby Ariake Sea. At the centre of the property sits a spa facility the company calls Bihada Goya ("skin-beauty hut"), pairing the in-room baths with treatments; Hoshino Resorts said the hot-spring water itself softens skin ahead of treatment, and gave the building's exterior a design referencing the layered soil strata associated with the area's Arita and Hizen Yoshida porcelain traditions. Ureshino Onsen is one of the hot springs long marketed in Japan for its skin-softening effect, and the company describes the town as a wellness destination for more than 1,300 years. The ryokan, designed by kooo architects with Kusuyama Architects and built by Sato Kogyo, sits on an 8,700m² site with a total floor area of about 3,490m².

KAI is Hoshino Resorts' onsen-ryokan brand, and a 28-room property of maisonette rooms is a small-scale format. Saga is a new prefecture for the company: KAI Ureshino is its first property there.

With reservations not opening until spring 2027 and the doors not due until that summer, there is nothing to book yet.
