Hankyu Umeda gives its basement food floor a week to one chestnut town
Hankyu Umeda is running a nine-vendor fair built entirely around Kasama, Ibaraki's claim to Japan's largest chestnut-growing area, anchored by a Paris-trained pâtissier's exclusive Mont Blanc rationed to 30 a day — the kind of basement food-floor programming Japanese department stores now lean on to keep a flagship's footfall up between the bigger seasonal exhibitions.
Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores said its Hankyu Umeda main store in Osaka will devote its B1 food floor to a nine-vendor fair built around Kasama, a city in Ibaraki prefecture it describes as home to Japan's largest chestnut-growing area, running October 7 to 13, according to a release dated October 5.
