Aeon TopValu moves upstream for the first time, building a Saitama cut-vegetable plant with Vegetech
Aeon TopValu, the private-label arm of Japan's largest retail group, has formed a joint venture with fresh-produce processor Vegetech to build its first plant upstream in the supply chain -- a Saitama cut-vegetable factory meant to lock in freshness and supply as Japan's farm workforce shrinks.
Aeon Co., Ltd. and its private-label arm Aeon TopValu Co., Ltd. said October 13 that Aeon TopValu has formed a joint venture with fresh-produce processor Vegetech Co., Ltd., called Vegetech TopValu Kanto Co., Ltd., to build Aeon TopValu's first plant making cut vegetables and cut salads -- the private-label unit's first move into the upstream end of its own supply chain.
